The Server Backup Manager 5.8 series was officially released in August 2014. A number of important additions were made to the product with the major release, including support for Amazon Glacier off-site storage of Disk Safe replicas, the ability to maintain a backup of the configuration database, additional logging information, and enhanced API offerings. The major release also addressed more than a dozen known issues in the control panel, Data Center Console and API.
The subsequent hotfix releases also addressed some important errors and vulnerabilities, including the SSL POODLE exploit and a policy scheduler bug. For more detailed information for each release in the 5.8 series, please see the detailed release notes below.
The Server Backup Manager 5.6 series was publicly released in April 2014 and included nearly a dozen new features. The features that garnered the most attention from R1Soft partners were online Disk Safe replication to offsite storage and improved cPanel integration allowing users to restore their own MySQL Databases within the control panel interface. Server Backup Manager 5.6 also introduces “Maintenance Mode,” which prevents new running tasks from executing while enabled allowing administrators to conduct upgrades and maintenance with greater ease.
The 5.6 series also included a number of bug fixes and core improvements, including increased speed of initial seed backups, improved logging information and configuration, and addressed issues regarding product upgrades. Launched in August 2013, the Server Backup Manager 5.4 series added support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2013. This series introduces support for LDAP authentication for SBM users. The initial launch also included remote deployment for Linux users, numerous improvements to the Data Center Console, enhanced API functionality and faster bare-metal restores.
Minor releases in the series fixed a number of issues and vulnerabilities and added automated alerts for outdated backups, support for Windows Server 2012 R2 installations and the ability to create the Quota Reached Report. The Server Backup Manager 5.2 series was publicly released in May 2013 and was the first version to feature initial support for Parallels Cloud Server. Other notable features in the 5.2 series included the “Add Server” wizard, remote deployments for backup agents and Disk Safe Verification, which checks the contents of Disk Safes against the internal database to detect possible corruption.
Additional fixes and improvements that were made during the 5.2 series included a remodeled backup dashboard, the ability to initiate restores via the API and faster merges of backup points. Publicly launched in November 2012, the Server Backup Manager 5.0 series provided official support for Windows Server 2012. This release also introduced a new pricing structure for virtual server licenses.
