"This Week in Data" is a weekly infographic that aims to serve as a quick and easy way for our readers to catch up on the latest news about the people and organizations that are shaking up the world of big data, cloud computing, and all thing data storage.

This week we've got two stories that feature Big Data being utilized to hinder the spread of some major forces in the world -- violent crime and influenza. Meanwhile, although it's becoming fairly common to hear about major forces in the industry coming together for the common good, but this week we saw something a little more unsuspected -- a partnership between two competitors in the storage space.
