CDP for MySQL - How does it work?

The CDP MySQL add-on locks and flushes MySQL during synchronization providing for consistent MySQL table files. These files are the same MySQL InnoDB and MyISAM files you are already backing up. With the MySQL Agent add-on, these files will be...

CDP Standard Edition Feature - Portable Backup Storage

CDP Standard Edition uses the new CDP 3.0 Disk Safe® technology.  When you start using CDP Standard Edition the first thing you will do is create a new Disk Safe to store your backup replicas.  The Disk Safe is an on-disk repository that has point-in-time replicas of each device or disk volume on your server you have chosen to protect.

The new CDP 3.0 Disk Safe® is fully portable.  Disk Safes can be located on any reliable disk-based storage.  Disk Safes always contain everything you need to restore and can be copied across CDP 3.0 installations.

Benefits of Portable Disk Safe Technology

Locate a Disk Safe on Any Reliable Disk-based Storage

With CDP 3 Disk Safe technology a Disk Safe is just a folder containing a block-level deltas repository for each of your devices or hard disk volumes.  You can locate that folder on just about any reliable disk-based storage you choose.

  • NAS Devices and Network Share (e.g. \\NAS-SERVER\SHARE\Folder\My Disk Safe\)

  • Second Hard Disks and Removable Storage like USB Drives

CDP 3 Portable Disk Safes

Inside of each Disk Safe folder is block-level deltas repository for each disk named with the unique identified of the file system and a meta-data folder containing meta-data about the server you are protecting and the Disk Safe.

You control where the folder is located and what it's name is.

Move Disk Safes Easily

Need to move your Disk Safe?  No problem.  Just close it.  Remove it from the CDP configuration then move the Disk Safe folder and its contents using standard file copy utilities like Windows Explorer, FTP, or xcopy.

Need to drive or Fedex a Disk Safe to another location?  Just copy it to a USB drive.  Open it with any CDP product using CDP 3 Disk Safe technology.

Move a CDP 3 Disk Safe

Make Safe Copies of the Disk Safe

First close the Disk Safe in the CDP Web Interface so it is safe to copy.  Then copy the Disk Safe folder using standard file copy utilities like Windows Explorer, FTP, or xcopy.  When you are done open the Disk Safe again in the CDP Web Interface to continue your data protection policy.  You can safely compress the Disk Safe folder into an archive using tools like 7-Zip and WinRAR.

CDP Standard Edition Automatically Excludes Disk Safes from Replication

If you happen to store the Disk Safe on the same Hard Disk you are protecting with CDP it will be detected and the Disk Safe will safely be excluded.  This means you can store CDP backups of your C:\ on the C:\.  This is useful if you are not concerned about disaster recovery and instead need to quickly restore older versions of files or protected against accidental data loss.
