Press Release

R1Soft Introduces Continuous Data Protection for MySQL

Houston, Texas–(March 21, 2007)—Righteous Software (http://www.r1soft.com), a developer of disk-based backup solutions, announced today it will release an add-on module in May to enable its line of data protection software to near-continuously backup online MySQL databases running on Linux-based servers.

With the announcement, R1Soft becomes the first to offer a near-continuous data protection product for MySQL databases, which generally store transaction-based data that changes frequently .

“Legacy backup solutions, such as tape backup or rsync, require server administrators to conduct data back ups at large intervals, such as nightly or weekly. With MySQL databases, the problem is exemplified, because database administrators often have to perform full dumps of the database while it is offline to avoid interrupting constant SQL transactions,” said David Wartell, R1Soft founder and CEO. “We have solved this problem by introducing the first-ever backup solution that provides hands-off, near-continuous data protection for MySQL. In essence, we have shrunk the database backup window to nearly zero.”

The module, available as a premium add-on to the company’s existing CDP Server for Linux, creates frequent disaster recovery restore points for MySQL databases—with the ability to store over 100 recovery points per day. Each recovery point is a complete and consistent point-in-time snapshot of the database, and administrators can revert the database to any stored recovery point via a simple, point-and-click interface.

“Web developers will really benefit from this groundbreaking improvement in data protection for MySQL, especially in the Web 2.0 era where developers cannot afford to lose mission-critical data. Furthermore, enterprises, are less likely to embrace MySQL unless certain factors such as efficient data protection can be overcome.”

R1Soft made the announcement while exhibiting at FOSE 2007, held in Washington DC from March 20 through 22, 2007. The company is located at booth 2642 in the exhibit hall.
