I have 10 servers do you recommend the Data Center version?
We recommend the Data Center solution for customers who have more than 100 servers to backup or expect they will soon.
How many servers do I need to run it?
You will need at a minimum 2 servers: one Control Server and one CDP Server.
Are users and hosts managed centrally in one database?
Yes. This is the main benefit of CDP for Data Centers. You can scale large deployments and manage the configuration centrally.
Is there an API to manage it?
Yes. We provide the SAPI (Service Provider API). SAPI uses XML-RPC and can be used for most service provider related tasks. For example, adding users and Hosts and setting quotas. We also a command line interface written in Perl and provided with an open source license. These CLI utilities serve as an example implementation as well as a functional way to manage the deployment with scripts.
What protocol do the nodes in a Data Center deployment use to communicate?
XML-RPC.
Do I need any addition software? Apache? IIS? MySQL? SQL Server?
No. Our installer includes all of the software you need. Please note that CDP Server will attempt to bind to ports 80 and 443 when it starts up. If you are already running a web server using those ports on the server where you installed CDP Server you will not be able to get to the CDP Server web interface. You can change the ports it uses later after getting to the web interface for the first time.
